FORT CAMBRIDGE is a seafront lifestyle development of Apartments and Penthouses constructed in the year 2000 on the former surrounding area (6,300 sqm) of the Cambridge Battery, Qui-si-Sana Sliema, just next door to Tigne Point.
Cambridge Battery is a Victorian-era battery built by the British between 1878 and 1886 above the shore, west of the entrance of the Grand Harbour between Sliema Point Battery and Fort Tigné in Sliema. It was built to contain a single Armstrong 100-ton gun to protect the entrance to Marsamxett harbour.
With the Tigne Point development literally next door, Fort Cambridge was planned strictly as a residential development within a pedestrianised and car free environment with no commercial outlets or business centres on site.
As part of the development brief the developer undertook to restore the Cambridge Battery into a Touristic attraction, and demolish the existing structures adjacent to the former Holiday Inn Hotel to make way for eight apartment blocks averaging 20 storeys high, six of which facing the seafront and two back blocks overlooking Tigne street.
Complimenting this amazing development is five levels of underground parking beneath the entire site, a large outdoor resident’s pool, and a modern 2,000 sqm fitness and leisure gym built directly beneath the whole pool area.
Launched on plan with expected delivery within three to five years, the project reached great success as it offered luxury finished family sized apartments with sea views with optional parking situated in a prime location just off the seafront promenade in central Sliema at an affordable price without compromising on quality of construction and standard of finishes, and yet within striking distance of The Point, Sliema’s largest shopping Mall in Tigne Point, just next door.
In total 350 Apartments and Penthouses were constructed with two, three and four bedroom layouts varying in sizes, all with large seafront balconies or terraces enjoying open sea views. Entry level apartments came with a three bedroom layout enjoying 195 sqm of living space, whilst the top floors were designed as large Penthouses with their own private roof space which could be transformed into a roof garden with large deck and pool.
